Cape Cod Bike Camping Trip
Sept.21st, 22nd, 23rd 2007

Itinerary
Friday, Sept. 21st -
3:30 P.M. departure from Church lot for Sandwich Mass. (4.0 hrs travel time)
Fast food supper on road, set up camp in dark (QUIETLY) and immediately to bed.
Saturday, Sept 22nd -
6:30 Awake, breakfast, day-packs packed with lunch, rain gear, swimsuit and towel,
Biking gear, water.
8:00 Entire group carpools to bike shop for bikes. Vehicles stay in rental lot.
8:15 Break into the (3) touring groups, re-review maps.
8:30 All cyclists depart for lunch destinations, swimming…
4:30 All cyclists meet back at rental shop to return bikes
NOTE: All rental bikes need to be returned no later than 5:00 P.M.
5:00 drive back to campground
5:30 – 6:30 supper
6:30 – 7:30 Gather wood for fire, build fire
7:30 – 8:00 Organize gear/personal clean up/showers
8:00 – 9:00 Campfire program (4 patrol skits/songs 4-5 leader skits/songs)
9:30 Lights out, quiet time (leader meeting/days review)
Sunday, Sept. 23rd –
7:00 Awake
7:00 – 8:30 breakfast/clean-up, day-packs packed.
8:30 Assemble entire group for pond/bay hike, nature exploration led by Brad Hanover,
Cliff Emmons.
11:00 Assemble back at camp
11:00 – 12:00 break camp.
12:30 Depart camp for lunch stop close by.
1:30 Depart lunch place for Oakville (arrival in Oakville est. 5:30P.M.)

Support wagon Chief: Paul Hoffman (cell # 203-233-4622)
If you experience a breakdown or an injury and need help, call Paul and he will come to
your aid with parts and tools and make an attempt to get you fixed up. If the damage is
server remove the front wheel of the bike and load it in the back of his van.
Camp Attendant: ________will be staying at camp and in charge of things in case we
have early returnees.

Equipment list
Bike Equipment List
1. Bike water bottle (Bottle needs to fit in bottle cage, NALGENE bottles will not
fit)
2. Helmet. (properly fitted so it does not fall of your head in case of a fall.
3. Lock if you have one
4. Back pack (extra water in Nalgene bottles, 2 quarts per day minimum)
Personal Equipment List
1. Sleeping bag
2. Ground pad
3. Toiletry kit (soap, washcloth, toothbrush, tooth paste)
4. Quarters for showers (8- quarters for 4 minute shower)
5. Swim trunks, SWIM SHOES!! and towel
6. Mess kit (eating utensils)
7. Nalgene bottles (2)
8. Bug repellent
9. Sun Screen
10. Work gloves (for camp work)
11. Rain suit
12. Money for supper on the road Friday night and Lunch on Sunday afternoon
Clothing
1. Long pants, fleece jacket, knit hat for nighttime in camp
2. Shorts, short sleeve shirt, sneakers for bike riding
Note: bring extra layers and keep them in your pack. We will not know what kind of
weather to expect until we get there.

Question and answer sheet
Common questions:
1. Should I bring a lock? Answer: If you have one bring it.
2. Can I bring my Bike? Answer: No. We will all be renting.
3. What time do I need to be at the Church lot on Friday afternoon? Answer: 3:00-3:15
4. Will we be swimming? Answer: Yes, unless it is too cold. Bring your gear.
5. Will I be dropped off at home on Sunday? Answer: Yes. Approximate time, 5:30PM.
6. What kind of weather can I expect on the cape in Sept. Answer: Somewhere between 50-80
degrees (daytime) 35-50 degrees (nighttime)
7. What if it rains? Answer: We still go and will decide if the trail conditions are safe for riding. If it
is not safe we will resume with alternate activities. Bring Rain gear

Payment Form

On the scenic Cape Cod coast we will camp in the beautiful Shawmie Crowell State park
and bike on the renowned Cape Cod Rail Trail.
Other activities: beach exploration, swimming…
Cost:
$55 (Fifty-Five dollars per person. To be paid in full by the second meeting on 9/12/07)
Equipment:
1. Personal equipment for tailgate style camping and possible swimming. (see
attached list)
2. Bike water bottle (Bottle needs to fit in bottle cage, NALGENE bottles will not fit)
3. Helmet.
Helmets are an absolute must for all cyclists regardless of Massachusetts’s laws.

All scouts registered with Troop 52

Itinerary:
Friday, Sept. 21st - Depart Church lot at 3:30 P.M. for Sandwich Mass. (4.0 hrs travel
time) (Setup crew consisting of two leaders and two scouts will leave at noon)
Saturday, Sept 22nd - Biking, camping
Sunday, Sept. 23rd – Beach exploration, Depart Sandwich at 12:00 Noon for Oakville
Fill out, detach and hand in the below payment stub along with payment and permission slip to Al Dodge
no later than Wed. 9/12/07.
