Camp Setup and Take Down

Camp Setup

1) The first thing you should set up is your tarp.

a. All Patrol Members should work together to get the tarp set up
b. This is especially important in bad weather.
c. As you enter you campsite you should first decide where your fire ring or cooking area will be and choose the best spot for the tarp based on that.
2) All group Gear should be taken out of the Packs 
a. This includes Water, tents and food.
3) The Crew leader or Patrol Leader should now post the Duty Roster.
4) The next thing up should be Tents
a. If bad weather, and you have free standing tents set them up one at a time under the tarp and them move them out to where you want them.
b. When picking a spot for a tent make sure it is:
i. Level
ii. Free of rocks, roots and other uncomfortable bumps
iii. Not in a rain runoff stream.
c. You can extend the life of the your tent by putting a ground sheet (large piece of plastic) underneath the tent.
i. This helps keep tents dry in heavy rain
ii. Be sure to fold any edges underneath tent
iii. If plastic sticks out it will act as a water collector
d. Never bring any FOOD, or smellables (toothpaste, deodorant, bug repellant, film, etc…) inside of the tent.
e. NEVER have a FLAME or HEAT source NEAR or IN a TENT!!!
5) The last thing to do is to set up the bear bag
a. The bag or bags should contain:
i. All food
ii. Smellables (toothpaste deodorant, bug repellant, film, etc…)
b. All items should be in Waterproof Bags
c. It should be hung 15 feet off of the ground
d. It should be 3 feet from any branch or tree

Campsite Take Down

1) All personal gear should be packed
2) Bear Bag taken down
3) Food redistributed as evenly as possible
4) All group gear packed excepted tents and tarp
5) Tents taken down and packed
6) Tarp Taken down
7) Litter line performed
