Summer 2006 High Adventure Trip
Acadia National Park - Mt. Katahdin
Saturday, July 15th through Friday, July 21st, 2006

Due significant roster changes with our troop's other 2006 High Adventure trip (to Philmont) that occurred in the fall of 2005, the adult leadership, timeframe, and duration of this trip has been changed from earlier information sheets.

Overview of Trip:
-2 days of Sea Kayaking around Mt. Desert Island, ME (which includes the town of Bar Harbor, and Acadia National Park)
-1.5 days of Hiking in Acadia National Park, Mt. Desert Island, ME
-1 day hike over Mt. Katahdin, the highest peak in Maine, northern terminus of the Appalachian Trail

Cost:
$650 ($150 non-refundable down payment due by May 10th, $500 balance due June 14th)
Note: The trip has been shortened by one day to offset recent gasoline price increases and to stay within our original budget.

Equipment:
-Personal Equipment for 6 days of tailgate style camping, swimming, and hiking

Eligibility:
Scouts registered with Troop 52 who meet the following:
1. At least First Class and 13 years old before July 15th 2006
2. Have at least 50% participation in Troop 52 activities and meetings for the year
3. Have successfully completed two of the four shakedown activities in preparation for the trip

Shakedown Trips (prior to the final payment date):
1. Racebrook Falls to Undermountain Trail (via Race and Bear Mtns.) - Fall 2005
2. Mt. Greylock Hike - February 2006
3. Macedonia Brook Hike - April 2006
4. Canoe Campout (or Backpacking Trip) - June 2006

Itinerary:

Saturday, July 15th:
7:30 am departure from Church for Acadia National Park Maine (7.0 hrs travel time)

Sunday, July 16th:
First full day, guided, sea-kayak tour in Frenchmen's bay

Monday, July 17th:
Full day of hiking in Acadia National Park

Tuesday, July 18th:
Second full day, guided, sea-kayak tour

Wednesday, July 19th:
½ day of hiking in Acadia National Park
Depart in pm to Millinocket campsite (2 hr drive)

Thursday, July 20th:
Katahdin check in 6:00 am
Hike Katahdin (7:00 am start)
Return to Millinocket campsite

Friday, July 21st:
7:30 am departure from Millinocket for Oakville (8.25 hrs travel time)
Fast food lunch on road, arrive Oakville 4:30 - 5:00 pm
